Hotarubi is a rather quiet slice-of-life-movie with a romantic plot. It definitely has the feel of a short-story instead of a big story with an epic message. It’s only 45 minutes long and I would rather call it longer-than-average OVA than a full-blown movie. I wouldn’t wanna call it a Natsume-spinoff but everyone who likes Natsume probably should watch this little movie.

Hotarubi no Mori e Review – Accidents Can Happen I’m sorry for my lack of sources, I write this based on what I watched.Apparently the creators of animes believe everyone would automatically assume it’s winter as long as there are no cicadas seen on screen… Seriously, why have it to be always the cicadas?! I guess it’s the same with spring and Sakuras, these season-stereotypes are really used far too often. I haven’t seen any reviews about the anime but I think many people who’ve watched it give positive feedback. Hotarubi no Mori e is a movie adaption from manga (Japanese comic) by Yuri Midorikawa. You’ll feel the emotion on how Hotaru and Gin always want each other. I see it as a very light and sweet story, with beautiful scenery and music composition.

So who says a romance should be dramatic and full of chaotic matters? This anime shows us a very simple compassion between two people from different world. She cries and hugs him, finally she touches him for the first…and the last time. Gin smiles at her and asks her to hug him. His hand begins to disolve, Hotaru realizes it was a human child. They both so happy then Gin accidentally help a little boy when he’s going to fall, he unintentionally grabs his arm. They enjoy the fest, and Gin tells her that he always want to have a date with Hotaru. Even humans go to their festival yet they can’t tell. One day, Gin asks her to go with him to Spirits Festival, where spirits in the forest disguise as humans and make a fest just like normal people do. So Hotaru plans to graduate from high school soon and live there, to be closer to Gin. But then she neglects it, because of that Gin they met and close to each other. She sometimes think it would be good if Gin was also a human and they could be couple. She gets older by the time but Gin stays young. Hotaru begins to feel that she wants to know more about Gin, and to touch him. Every year at summer holiday, she meets Gin. Gin asks her to come back next year in summer, and she does. She can’t stay longer because she only lives there at summer holiday. She meets him everyday after that, plays with him and get to know both inside the forest and Gin. She says thank you to Gin-–his name, and promises him to come back tomorrow to give him a gift. Hotaru doesn’t believe him, but then she sees a fox spirit and she trusts him completely. He says he can not touch humans to stay exist. The young boy tells her that he’s not, in fact in the whole forest lives a lot of spirits. He doesn’t want to be touched, since he will disappear if he gets touched. She is so happy there’s someone finds her and runs to him, but he turns away. A boy with a mask shows up to check upon her and asks her to stop crying. She cries alone among the trees and bushes. The story is about a girl who is one day lost in the forest, named Hotaru, when she stays in her uncle’s village to spend her summer holiday. Okay so let me make a little review about this, maybe it contains spoilers, so be prepared.

Then I decided it to watch it online at night, and that’s it. At first, I didn’t really pay attention to what she told me about the movie. It was two days ago when some friends told me they watched a beautiful anime titled Hotarubi no Mori e.
